The management of the Federal University Lokoja, Kogi State has confirmed the death of five of the university’s students in a motor accident which occurred on Monday at Felele area of Lokoja.
The university made the confirmation in a statement signed by Mr Vincent Ifedayo Ojo, Deputy Registrar, Human Resources.
The five students were among seven passengers in the university’s campus shuttle bus which was involved in an accident with a plank ladden truck on Monday.
The driver of the bus was also among the casualties while a student escaped with injuries.
The full text of the statement reads: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic loss of five of our promising students,
who were taken away from us too soon in a fatal trailer accident.
“This wanton loss of lives is one accident too many, leaving our university community in deep sorrow and grief.
“In honour of the departed souls and as a mark of respect, the University Management has
declared lecture-free days effective from 12 noon on Tuesday, 18th February and all -day
Wednesday, 19th February 2025.
“Furthermore, all university activities will be observed on a low-key, while the institution’s
flag will fly at half-mast as a symbol of mourning.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and the entire university community
during this difficult time.
“May God grant them merciful judgement and rest their souls in eternal peace.”
