Famous African Author, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o has died at the age of 87 years.
Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o died in the morning of today, Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025 , his family announced in a terse statement.
The statement reads : “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dad, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o this Wednesday morning, 28th May 2025.
“He lived a full life, fought a good fight. As was his last wish, let’s celebrate his life and his work. Rîa ratha na rîa thŭa. Tŭrî aira!
“The family’s spokesperson Nducu Wa Ngugi will announce details of his celebration of life soon.
“Njoki Wa Ngugi Ngina Kiarie Tee Ngugi Kay Ngugi Björn.”
Ngugi wa Thiong’o was born January 5, 1938, in Limuru, Kenya.
He was a Kenyan writer who was considered East Africa’s leading novelist.
His authored the popular book, “Weep Not Child.”
