Idah (Kogi) – As the November 2023 Governorship election in Kogi State draws near, the Attah Igala, Dr. Matthew Opaluwa Oguche Akpa has prayed for the success of Senator Dino Melaye in the election.
The traditional ruler showered his blessings on Dino Melaye, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his palace at Idah on Tuesday.
Melaye in company with his deputy governorship candidate , Hajia Habeebat Mohammed Deen, the state Chairman of the PDP, Engr San Ohuotu and other chieftains of the party had visited the royal father for his blessings.
Attah prayed that the will of God be done as Kogi decides who will rule the state for another four years.
“As the father of all, I bless anyone that seeks my blessings and I have always prayed that the person that the cap fits should emerge,” Atta Igala who is the Paramount ruler of Igala Kingdom and the President of Kogi State council of Chiefs said.
Earlier, Melaye, the PDP Candidate had explained to Attah Igala that he was in his palace to pay traditional homage to him and seek his blessings in his quest to become the next governor of the state.
Senator Dino Melaye expressed his profound appreciation to the Attah Igala and his high chiefs for receiving him warmly into the palace.
Melaye requested for the continuous prayers of the royal father to ensure that he emerge victorious at the polls.
The PDP candidate assured the royal father that the stool of Attah Igala will be accorded its rightful place under his watch as the governor of the state.
He also promised to attract national and international recognition to the throne of Attah Igala under his tenure.
“We have not come here to campaign because the time for campaign is not here but we have come to pay a courtesy visit on our father who I respect so much.
“As a government, we will dedicate a day to celebrate the stool of Attah Igala and the state will make a law that will allow our royal fathers to have engagement in the governance of the state.
“I will not be a Muslim governor or a Christian governor. I will not be an Igala, Ebira or Okun Governor but a governor with the fear of God. I will rule Kogi state with inclusiveness.
“We have come to you to seek your blessings as a revered Royal father and the representative of the Almighty God and I am sure that you have a strong connection with God that answers prayers,” Dino Melaye said.
Melaye later presented a basket of native kolanuts to Attah Traditional Council as a mark of respect for the ancient throne.
Other high Chiefs present later took turns to pray for the success of Senator Dino Melaye in the election.
