A civil society group,
Conscience for human rights and conflicts Resolution (CHRCR), has urged the Kogi State House of Assembly to follow due process in its handling of the purported suspension of Hon. Emmanuel Onuche, the Chairman of Ibaji Local Government.

Idris miliki Abdul, Executive Director, CHRCR, gave the advice on Thursday, in a statement in Lokoja.

He insisted that the reported suspension of Hon. Emmanuel Onuche, should follow due process in the spirit of justice and fairness.

“While the state House of Assembly has the power to make laws and carry out oversight functions on the local government, van the state House of Assembly suspend a local government chairman before constituting an investigation committee?

” What is the role of the legislature of that location? – The Ibaji Local government legislators.

“What was the offence or offences that a committee put in place can be given one month to submit reports?

“If at the end of the committee’s investigation the chairman is not guilty, what will we call Kogi State House of Assembly as a law making institution,” he asked.

Idris Miliki Abdul charged the assembly to always follow due process diligently in it activities, saying that the “current matter under review cannot be an exemption.”

“Due process must be followed. The process and its outcome made public, in the interest of justice and fairness,” he said.
