The body of a Kogi State based photojournalist, Ayobami Ayepeku who was recently murdered by a staff of the Nigeria Correctional Service has been found.

The body was found Sunday evening in Crusher area, an outskirt of Lokoja by residents who promptly raised an alarm.

Ayobami Ayepeku was murdered in cold blood in the evening of Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, around 7:00 PM by a correctional service officer, Oluwapelumi Adebayo.

Residents were said to have been attracted to a nearby bush in Crusher area by foul odour oozing out from the decomposing body of the late photographer.

Upon sighting his corpse, residents quickly made telephone calls to the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, Abdullahi Adamu, to inform him of the development.

The Chairman was said to have responded almost immediately by arriving the spot in company with some security agents to recover the body.

The search for the remains of the 26 years-old late photojournalist started since last week’s Wednesday morning.

His assailant, Oluwapelumi Adebayo had after killing him, loaded his corpse into a deep freezer and disposed it off.

The search for the corpse became complicated on Thursday, July 24, when the lifeless body of the murder suspect, Oluwapelumi Adebayo was found in a hotel room.

He was found naked in the hotel room with an empty bottle of snipper and a suicide note among other items.

The remains of Ayobami, an indigene of Ekinrin Adde in the Ijumu Local Government Area of the State, were deposited at the morgue of Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja.

Police is yet to comment on the development.
