Two members of the Volunteer Guards of Nigeria (VGN) have been killed in Lokoja by gunmen suspected to be bandits.
The officers, Abbas Idris and Ibrahim Bello Hussain, were killed in an ambush on Friday, February 6, 2026.
They were killed while on duty on Friday, 6th February 2026.
The Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, confirmed the killing of the officers in a statement on Saturday.
He described the incident as a heavy blow to the community and extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officers.
“These brave officers were part of a dedicated Joint Task Force stationed in Atsawa community, near Jamata.
“Their vigilance and sacrifices have significantly improved security in the area,” Adamu said.
He also commended the courage of all security personnel who risk their lives daily to protect citizens.
“We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families during this painful period.
“The sacrifice of Abbas Idris and Ibrahim Bello Hussain will not be in vain, Insha Allah,” he added.
The council urged the community to remain vigilant and continue supporting security efforts in the area.
“We appeal to residents to report suspicious activities to authorities and work together with security agencies to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods,” the statement read.
Adamu called on all government agencies and community leaders to intensify collaboration in combating criminal activities.
He emphasized that the local government would provide necessary assistance to the families of the fallen officers to help them through this difficult time.
The Lokoja Local Government also announced plans to hold a memorial service in honor of the officers in recognition of their bravery and commitment to protecting the community.
“Abbas and Ibrahim will be remembered for their courage and dedication.
“Their legacy will continue to inspire others to serve with integrity and selflessness,” the statement concluded.
