Abuja – The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) says it has improved supply in Abuja, Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger States following higher grid allocation of over 500 megawatts (MW) to its network since July.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Lugbe-Abuja, the Head of Operations and Lines at AEDC, Elisha Yakubu said: “Since January, we have been suffering in the country because of many system collapses.
“We have the issues where we don’t have power supply due to load shedding; we are disturbed and our regulators are disturbed.
“As such, they came out with a blueprint that states that by July, supply will start improving. We have started having more supply now because of a meeting that was held with all DisCos, where we gave our own base load, as AEDC, to be from 550 Megawatts (MW) to 650MW. Currently, the supply is improving gradually and today we are distributing 580MW,” Yakubu stated.
The DisCo official also blamed the earlier poor power supply on the bad infrastructure it inherited when it took over operations, including bad transformers.
On her part, the Head of Business Distribution, Joan Ugwunna, said AEDC has launched a meter on wheels initiative to allow customers to purchase meters instantly without the need to wait for months.
