The internal crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) escalated on Monday as a factional chairman of the party in Adamawa State, Raji Sulaiman Zumo, announced the suspension of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, from the party in the state.
Zumo, who leads a faction of the party in Adamawa, said the decision followed alleged anti-party activities, though details of the allegations were not immediately made public.
The development marks a significant twist in the ongoing leadership tussle within the ADC, which has seen rival factions emerge across different levels of the party.
Neither Atiku Abubakar nor Babachir Lawal had officially responded to the suspension as of the time of filing this report.
The move is expected to further heighten tensions within the party, particularly as it prepares for its national convention and attempts to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
