Ibadan – The Pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has lauded the Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, for the various infrastructural projects his administration is executing in the state.
The state chapter of Afenifere, made the commendation in a communique issued at the end of its monthly meeting in Ibadan earlier this week.
The communique which was signed by the state’s publicity secretary, Prince Remi Adegbola, asserted that “since his inauguration on May 29, 2019, the Governor has given Oyo State purposeful leadership as reflected in the myriad of socio-economic activities aimed at making life full of abundance for the people of the state”.
The meeting, however, expressed serious concern over the escalating insecurity situation
in the state and others parts of Yorubland.
It cited the reported attacks on Yoruba youths by alleged Fulani herdsmen at Alaga on Iseyin-Saki road on Saturday, June 18, 2022 as an example.
The meeting also referred to the June 5 killing of 44 worshippers at St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State and the recent abduction of Reverend John Aderogba, the Anglican Bishop of Jebba Diocese on Oyo-Ogbomoso road by armed hoodlums.
“Thus, Afenifere Ipinle Oyo, while wishing the victims quick recovery, called on Governor Makinde to cause the Oyo State Police Command to fish out the hoodlums and make them face the music for their dastardly act,” the communique stated.
The state’s chapter of Afenifere, also said that “after appraising the on-going political events resolved to support any presidential candidate that is ready to take Restructuring as one of the waterways in which his political ship will sail.
“It is the settled belief that Nigeria cannot move forward towards the Promised Land without Restructuring.
“Finally, Afenifere Ipinle Oyo appealed to Nigerian politicians to tread softly, eschew politics of bitterness and violence as they go about their campaigns.
“Their campaigns must be in the interest of the masses,” the group said. (vitalnewsngr.com)
