One of the leading traditional rulers in Kogi State, the Olu of Magongo in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of the state, Oba Sam Bola Ojo, has joined his ancestors.
Oba Ojo died peacefully inside his palace in the early hours of Monday, 20th July, 2026.
The apex socio-cultural of the town, Magongo Development Association (MDA) confirmed the death of the traditional ruler in a statement on Monday.
The group expressed profound sorrow, deep sadness, over the passing of the traditional ruler.
Prince Jordan Alaba Akpata, the National President of MDA signed the statement.
The statement said : “His Royal Highness was a distinguished custodian of our rich cultural heritage, a symbol of peace, wisdom, unity, and selfless service.
“Throughout his reign, he dedicated himself to the progress, stability, and development of the Magongoland, leaving behind an enduring legacy that will be cherished for generations to come.
“The Magongo Development Association (MDA) deeply mourns this irreparable loss and extends heartfelt condolences to the immediate Royal Family, the people of Magongo, friends, associates, and all who were privileged to know and work with our beloved monarch.
“May Almighty God grant the soul of our departed King eternal rest and grant the Royal Family and the entire Magongo Community the fortitude to bear this monumental loss.
“The Government, the relevant Traditional Institutions, and the appropriate Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) will, in due course, keep the community and the general public abreast of further developments and the official funeral arrangements.”
