Lokoja – Senator Dino Melaye’s bid to return to the Senate was aborted on Tuesday when he lost in the PDP primary election conducted to determine the party’s candidate for Kogi West Senatorial District in the coming 2023 elections.
Melaye lost to a current member of the House of Representatives, Hon TJ Yusuf who scored 163 votes to emerge the winner of the ticket while he, Melaye scored 99 votes.
A total of 262 delegates from Ijumu, Mopa-Muro, Yagba West, Yagba East, Kabba-Bunu, Lokoja and Kogi local government councils that make up Kogi West Senatorial district voted in the primary election which was held at Kabba, the headquarters of the Senatorial district.
Today’s election was a rerun as both of them scored 88 votes each during the first primary conducted on Monday while the third aspirant, Mr Sam Aro scored 71 votes.
Yusuf who is spending his third term in the House of Representatives is from Kabba-Bunu Local Government while Melaye is from Ijumu Local Government.(vitalnews)
