Another female Councilor, Hon. Zainab Adeshewa Shotayo, Councillor, representing Ward C3, Odi-Olowo LCDA , Lagos State, is dead.
Shotayo, the only female member of the sixth Legislative Arm of the LCDA died on Monday, August 18, 2025 after a brief illness.
Her death came barely one week after the death of another female councillor in Ibeji Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, Oluwakemi Rufai.
Oluwakemi who represented Ward C1 in Ibeji Lekki Local Government died in the early hours of Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Just like Shotayo, Rufai was the only elected female councillor in her local government.
Both Oluwakemi and Shotayo were among new councillors inaugurated just about three weeks ago.
Hon. Shotayo, was also a former Chief Whip of the legislative arm.
She was 37 years.
BYA Foundation confirmed her death in a statement on Tuesday.
Hon. Noah Olaitan Osifeso, the Chairman of BYA signed the statement.
The statement said :
Hon. Zainab Shotayo was not only the youngest member of the Council but also an inspiring figure who embodied resilience and leadership.
“She was not just a representative; she was a role model to many, particularly women in leadership.
“Her commitment to the service of humanity and pursuit of progress for her constituents in (Ward C3) and Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA will never be forgotten in a haste.”
