Police in Osun State have arrested four persons in a National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) branded vehicle containing arms and ammunitions.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, said the four suspects were arrested on June 24 along Osogbo-Ilesa Road, Osogbo.
Gotan said the suspects who claimed to be students were caught with a pistol in a Toyota Camry branded PRESIDENCY NANS 27ZD.
He mentioned the suspects as Adewale Kehinde ’25’ Adebayo Ayuba ’22’, Olasupo Abeeb ’23’ and Adeniyi Mustapha, ’21 years.
Gotan said that security operatives discovered an English Beretta Pistol and two empty magazines that were carefully concealed in a box inside the vehicle alongside a cutlass and some criminal charms.
“On 24/06/2024 at about 8:30pm , upon a credible information, the Command’s CP’s Surveillance squad led by the Commander on stop and search along Osogbo-llesa Road, Osogbo intercepted a Toyota Camry with Registration number: PRESIDENCY NANS 27ZD driven by one Adewale Kehinde ‘m’ age 25 years and three (3) other occupants one Adebayo Ayuba ‘m’ age 22 years, Olasupo Abeeb ‘m’ age 23 years and Adeniyi Mustapha ‘m’ age 21 years. They claimed to be a student.
“The vehicle was thoroughly searched and an English Beretta Pistol and two empty magazines that were carefully concealed in a box inside the vehicle were recovered alongside a cutlass and some criminal charms,” he said.
He also said that the two Suspects, Usman Abubakar 25-year-old and Bashiru Garuba 26-year-old were arrested for allegedly vandalizing property belong to Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), recovered seven motorcycles.
Gotan said that surveillance team of the Command arrest the suspects during stop and search on June 21, 2025 along Ile-Ife/Ibadan expressway Osu, Osun State.
According to him, implementing the operational strategies put in place, the Osun State Police Command’s Swift Action Squad (SAS) while on stop and search on 21/06/2025 along Ile-Ife/Ibadan expressway Osu, arrested IBEDC vandals on bike who have been terrorizing the environs with bags tied to their motorcycles.
It was discovered that the bag contains IBEDC cable/wire suspected to have been stolen.
The two Suspects one Usman Abubakar ‘m’ 25yrs and Bashiru Garuba ‘m’ 26yrs along with the exhibit were arrested.
“The CP’s surveillance team of the Command intense efforts led to the recovery of seven motorcycles, three Boxers with Reg. No WSN 409 VC, JJB 805 QH, QW 01 FST and four unregistered.
“Two big sacks containing IBEDC cable/ wire and two saw blades. The suspects who claim to be scrap dealers at Modakeke,” Gotan explained.
He said he has charged the officers and men of the Command to give no room for crime and criminality in the State.
