The Nigeria Police (NPF) said it has recovered five AK-47 rifles, 347 bullets, eight magazines found inside vehicle abandoned by a man during police chase.
Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Adejobi said the five AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines as well as 347 bullets of various calibres were recovered by men of the Kogi State Police Command.
He said the arms and ammunition were found inside a vehicle abandoned by a man during police chase.
Adejobi who made the disclosure on his X handle said the fleeing man is suspected to be an armed robber.

According to him, the man was pursued by the officers after he refused to stop for a search on the road.
“Officers of the command intercepted a space bus that ran through a security checkpoint at high speed.
“The team pursued the bus and the driver, upon realizing that he was being pursued, abandoned the bus and fled into a nearby bush.
“On getting to where he abandoned the vehicle, the officers conducted a search and reportedly found the arms and ammunition inside,” he said.
Adejobi further wrote that : “A swift cordon and search was conducted on the spot, leading to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, which included five AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines, 283 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 62 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and two rounds of 7.62x59mm ammunition.”
Adejobi also disclosed that preliminary investigation suggested a possible connection to a recent armed robbery at a filling station in Kabba, a town in Kogi State, which is currently under investigation.
He added that efforts are on to apprehend the fleeing man and other members of his gang.
