Abuja – The suspended Chief Imam of Apo Mosque in Abuja, Sheikh Nuru Khalid, has been sacked by the mosque’s steering committee for not being remorseful over his comment against President Muhammadu Buhari.
Khalid aka Digital Imam was handed his sack letter on Monday in Abuja by the mosque committee headed by Senator Saidu Dansadu.
The Imam had critised the president over his refusal to go to Kaduna to visit victims of Monday, April 28 terror attack on an Abuja-Kaduna train.
The Imam, in his sermon during the Friday Jumat service of April 1 said mere condemnation was not enough, adding that Buhari should have visited the victims.
He argued that the President was in Kaduna for campaigns but refused to visit the state after the bomb attack on the passenger train.
Imam Khalid was subsequently suspended for what the mosque committee cited as Unislamic and inciting comments.
However, the committee on Monday, accused Khalid of not showing remorse since his suspension and decided to upgrade the suspension to dismissal.
A journalist with BBC Hausa Service, AbdulBaki Aliyu Jari had earlier in the day twitted that “The management of Apo Legislative Quarters Central Mosque have disengaged Sheikh Nuru Khalid from his position of Imam.” (vitalnews)
