The people of Kogi Central Senatorial district in Kogi State have been thrown into mourning following the killing of Mr Musa Lawal Ozigi, the General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Mr Tibile Mosugu by bandits that attacked Abuja -Kaduna passenger train on Monday night.
While Ozigi hailed from Adavi Local Government, Tibile Mosugu hailed from Ogori-Magongo Local Government from the district.
Both Ozigi and Mosugu were also lawyers by profession.
Ozigi worked in the Gani Fawehinmi Chamber in Lagos from where he joined the TUC.
Mosugu on the other hand was a young lawyer said to be in his mid-30s and was a son to Dr S. E. Mosugu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Mosugu senior, age 80 years , was actually said to be deliberately grooming his son, Tibile to take over his chamber as age is no longer on his side.
Some residents who spoke to vitalnews said the news of the death of their two illustrious sons was received with a rude shock.
They also said that members of the communities are in a sad mood over the death of Ozigi and Mosugu.
Apart from the two, eight other persons, including Comrade Akinsola Akinwumi, Chairman of the Kwara State chapter of TUC and a young female medical doctor, Dr Chinelo Megafu were also confirmed killed in the attack.
Also believed to be dead in the attack are NRC cleaners and workers on the train, including Loretta and Abdul.
Some security personnel and few other passengers were similarly killed but their names are yet to be out.
A lot of people also sustained injuries while some were abducted.
Among those who sustained gunshot injuries was Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala, a former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State who was shot in the leg and arm.
Reports said that 970 passengers were on board the train when it was attacked by bandits.
However, security agencies and the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) are yet to come out with actual number of casualty figure as at the time of this report.
The NRC has this morning suspended train operation in Abuja – Kaduna route.(vitalnews)
