Home – Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) has built a 450-bed students hostel at the College of Education, Billiri in Gombe State.
Dr Hassan Langa, the Provost, College of Education, Billiri disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on March 18.
Langa said the two hostels for male and female students gulped N450 million through the TETfund normal and special intervention programmes of 2021.
According to him, the male hostel with 200 beds capacity has been completed and furnished with all the necessary facilities.
He said that the only thing left was for the hostel to be connected with electricity.
He said the female hostel with 250 beds was under construction, hoping to be completed within the stipulated period.
Langa said, since the establishment of the school, there had been no hostel accommodation for students, making the authority to rent a place for the female students in the town, while the males were living off campus.
He said the construction of the hostel would cushion the effect of inadequate students accommodation, saying “ one of the major things that I am passionate about in the school is students hostel.’’
He however made an appeal to the state government, following the security threat in the country to urgently fence the two hostels while awaiting the overall perimeter school fencing.
“One of the major challenges facing us is the security of the college as there is no perimeter fencing which allows everyone to come in.
“Also livestock, animals come in to eat the grasses and flowers that have been planted for beautification, we need to secure the entire premises,” he said.
He said apart from the hostels there were other interventions from TETfund which were used for the construction of library, lecture theaters, office furniture for staff among other things. (NAN/vitalnews)
