The Supreme Court will on Thursday, December 21 hear the appeal filed by Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf of Kano State against the judgment of the Court of Appeal which nullified his election.
Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is contesting the decision of the Appeal Court, which affirmed the tribunal’s ruling that removed him and declared Dr. Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 18 governorship election.
The three-member panel of the Appeal Court rejected Governor Yusuf’s appeal, citing concerns about his party membership status.
However, confusion arose on Tuesday, November 21, when the certified true copy of the court judgment surfaced four days after the ruling, revealing contradictions in the decision.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wole Olanipekun, and counsel Yusuf, in his reaction said the court of appeal does not have the jurisdiction to correct the errors made in the recently delivered judgment on the Kano governorship election dispute. (vitalnewsngr.com)
