Abuja – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refused to recognise Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State as the acting Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Committee (CECC).
The electoral body made the rejection of Bello known in a letter dated March 9 and addressed to the national Chairman of the APC in Abuja on Thursday.
The letter to the APC was signed by the Secretary of the INEC, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
The INEC in the letter rejected an invitation to attend the APC emergency NEC meeting on grounds that the invitation was not signed by Governor Mai Mala Buni and John Akpanudoedehe, who it referred to as the Chairman and national Secretary of the APC CECC.
The INEC said that the APC’s refusal to allow Buni and Akpanudoedehe to sign the letter was a violation of the rules and guidelines governing political party operations in the country.
The electoral body also said that the APC letter of invitation dated March 8, 2022 violated the 21-day notice stipulated by it.
It advised the APC to always abide with relevant provisions in the existing regulations and guidelines put in place for operations of political parties in Nigeria.(vitalnews).
