Lagos – Lagos State government has suspended activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers ( NURTW) in all motor parks in the state with immediate effect.
The state Commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso who announced this in a statement said the need to protect live and properties of citizens informed the decision.
Omotosho said the leadership crisis in the state chapter of the NURTW was capable of jeopardising the security of the state if government failed to act on time.
It then ordered the union to stop operating in all parks and garages in Lagos State.
“The government will set up a Committee to immediately take control of the parks and garages. Members of the committee will be key stakeholders in the sector.
“The government’s position is premised on its responsibility to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in all parks and garages in Lagos State,” the statement said.
It would be recalled that the national body of the NURTW had on March 8 suspended the chairman of the Lagos State chapter , Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo on March 8 for what it called gross insurbodination.
Oluomo in his reaction announced the withdrawal of the state chapter from the national body on March 9, thereby leading to claim and counter-claim to the leadership of the union in the state.(vitalnews)
