Lagos – The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has mapped out a week long activities to celebrate the Year 2023 International Youth Day.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed this recently at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

She revealed that the activities have been put in place to celebrate youths in the State due to the importance the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu attached to issues that concern youths.

According to her, the six- day programme to mark the Year 2023 International Youth Day (IYD) with the theme “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World” would commence on Monday, 7th August, with a BUSINESS AMPLIFIER CLINIC.

Other activities lined up include: Awareness Walk/Environmental Clean Up slated for Tuesday, 8th August, 2023 while Wednesday, 9th-12th August, 2023 will witness Business Fair/Exhibition For Young Entrepreneurs.

On Thursday, 10th August 2023, there will be an Enterpreneurship Seminar/Business Plan Pitch/Contest.
On Friday, 11th August 2023, an Emerging Youth Award Ceremony will be organised by NYCN (Lagos State Chapter).

The Grand Finale which will feature a Seminar will be held on Saturday, 12th August 2023.

Speaking further on the event, Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized that the activities were drawn up in with the desire of the state government to give over 10 million youths in the State more opportunities and resources to maximize their skills and potentials as provided for in the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda with the addition of “Youth Engagement” and “Social Inclusion”.

The International Youth Day (IYD) was first observed by the UN on 12 August, 2000 to help draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youths with the aim of proffering solutions to them.

This year’s IYD, which focuses on green transition, is aimed at economically sustainable growth and economy that is not dependent on fossil fuels and overconsumption of natural resources. (vitalnewsngr.com)
