Lokoja – A former Governorship aspirant on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Adebanji David Jimoh has commended Governor Yahaha Bello for keeping to his promise to expedite action on the take off of proposed Okun University.
Jimoh who gave the commendation in a statement signed personally by him and made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Friday commended the governor for immediate inauguration of the committee on the immediate take off of the university.
“The Governor’s decision to establish Okun University is unprecedented in the history of Okun Nation who have been marginalized by previous administration, but the emergence of Governor Yahaha Bello has renewed the hope of Okun people in his quest to develop all parts of the state.
“This is a dream come true for the people of Okun Nation.
“Let me also commend the committee members for accepting the responsibility and the Chairman, Professor Olu Obafemi and his committee members for their commitment so far on the take off of the university in their assignment to determine the type/nature of the university to be established, be it specialised or conventional, propose an appropriate name for the institution, identify an ideal location and a suitable site to ensure the immediate commencement of academic activities and to explore realistic and sustainable funding sources amongst others.
“I trust that the committee , given its composition wil deliver as expected and their recommendations would allow for a speedy implementation of the planned takeoff.
“The committee has been given a timeframe of six weeks from the date of inauguration to submit it report, a demonstration of Governor Bello’s commitment to a swift and efficient process in the establishment of the university.
“Let me also use this medium to appeal to the good people of Okun Nation to support and cooperate with the committee for the period of their existence so that they can come up with suitable resolutions that would be in the interest of all Okun people in particular and Kogi State at large.
“I equally want to appeal to Okun people to reciprocate the gesture by coming out in their good numbers in the forthcoming Kogi State Governorship election and vote overwhelmingly for APC Governorship candidate, Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman to sustain the legacy of the Governor when elected as the Governor of Kogi State,” he said.
