Ilorin – The Director-General, Michael Imodu National Institute for labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Comrade Issa Aremu has called on those canvassing for an interim government to perish the thought as it is illegal, undemocratic and unacceptable.

Aremu made the call while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on the sideline of a Ramadan iftar lecture held in Ilorin recently.

It would be recalled that the Department of State Services (DSS) said it uncovered plans by some unnamed key players canvassing for an interim government to truncate democracy

He said “I don’t think any serious Nigerian voters want to return to an idea that is already discredited, outdated and out of fashion.

“Military regime has been declared illegal , it is also alien to this current constitution and is an abberation to the entire democratic process.

“Those mutting this idea should perish the thought, they should organise and not to agonise and the way to organise will be if you are aggrieved, seek redress with the tribunal and if you are happy with the outcome we should all work towards May 29, 2023 inauguration even after May 29 we should work towards good governance because elections is just the means, the end is good governance, it is not over until we combine political democracy with economic democracy and economic democracy can only come when we uplift our people out of poverty, millions are still living in poverty which mean vote has not translated to prosperity for majority of our people is undemocratic is unacceptable.

“let me use this forum to commend the Department of State Security Services DSS for being vigilant to uncover and make it public.

“All of us should rise and defend this democratic processes that is forward ever backward never,” he added.

Aremu, a labour veteran also commended the turn out of voters in the just concluded 2023 general elections despite all the challenges.

“Let me use this opportunity to commend millions of registered voters who came out to exercise their democratic right during the February 25 Presidential election as well as the Merch 18 gubernatorial elections.

“It is now clear that Nigerians are now committed to democratic process in spite of the economic challenges in the country, they still came out in large number regardless of the challenges and I would like to appreciate the INEC that made the effort to make sure that the election took place and the vote counted.

“We should all work toward the inauguration.

“For those who are aggrieved, we have process for seeking redress and I want to commend all the key actors who have taken advantage of the election petition tribunal.

“That is the way to go in democracy, we count on judiciary to do justice to all the cases.

“I want to commend the political parties, they put up a good fight.

“The President-elect, Bola Tinubu has already extended the hand of fellowship to all to come on board.

“We should key into the renew hope vision of the president-elect, the same thing at the state levels all of us are winner, no looser,” he said. (vitalnewsngr.com)
