Lokoja – The people of Kogi west senatorial district in Kogi State have appealed to all political parties to pick their governorship candidates from the zone in line with the principle of justice, fairness and equity.
Dr Abdulsalam Bawa Dangana made the plea ahead of the March 27 to April 17 the political parties in the state are expected to hold their governorship primaries.
He made the appeal recently while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja.
Dangana who spoke after leading a DSSA Solidarity Walk to major areas and streets of Lokoja explained that it is the turn of Kogi West to produce the next governor of the state.
He stated that since the start of the present democratic dispensation in 1999, Kogi East has ruled the state for 16 years while the Kogi Central where the incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello comes from will be completing its two term of eight years on January 26, 2024.
Dangana said that Kogi West people, spread across of seven local governments of Lokoja, Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu, Mopa-Muro, Yagba West, Kogi and Yagba East have cooperated with Kogi East and Kogi Central by ensuring that peace and harmony reign supreme across the state.
He said it is only fair and just for the people of Kogi East and Kogi Central to reciprocate the hood gesture of Kogi West by allowing them to produce the next governor of the state.
Dangana also reminded the Kogi East and Kogi Central of the gentleman’s agreement among the three senatorial districts on rotation of the governorship position, saying that it is moral burden on them to respect the agreement.
“The people of the state irrespective of tribe and religion have come a ling way, we inter-marry, no division, we have ensure peace and harmony in the state , we want the peace to continue, we want the harmony to continue,” Dangana said.
Dangana appealed to registered political parties in the state to be put the larger interest of the state at heart during their primary elections by picking their candidates from Kogi West.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed Saturday, November 11 for governorship election in the state.
It has also directed registered political parties to hold their primaries from March 27, to April 17, 2023
He said that the group DSSA,is solidly behind the governorship aspiration of Senator Smart Adeyemi, who is currently representing Kogi West in the Senate and ready to mobilise support for him across the state. (vitalnewsngr.com)
