Abuja – President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the name of former Inspector – General of Police, Solomon Arase, to Senate gor confirmation as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Buhari’s request was contained in a letter read on the floor of the upper legislative chamber by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
Buhari’s noted that his request is in line with sections 153 (1) and 154 (1) of the constitution as amended.
Arase was appointed as the 18th IGP by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
If confirmed, Arase will succeed Musiliu Smith, also a former IGP. Smith who resigned from the position under controversial circumstances last year.
Similarly, Buhari asked the upper legislative chamber to confirm the reappointment of Mahmud Isa as Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi and the new appointment of Sani Ali for the same position in Ondo.
