Six persons have been arrested in connection with the Tuesday attack on Senator Jibrin Echocho at the Kogi State Government House, Lokoja.
The six suspects were arrested on the order of Governor Yahaya Bello who has also ordered their immediate prosecution.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bello, Onogu Mohammed stated this in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja.
He said the governor has consequently banned unauthorised persons from accessing the government henceforth.
It would be recalled that Senator Echocho was attacked by some persons inside Kogi State Government House, Lokoja on Tuesday shortly after leading national assembly members from the state on a courtesy call to the governor.
Echocho who confirmed the incident said he was singled out for the violent attacks by the youths who wanted to lynch him.
The Senator said he escaped death by whiskers through quick intervention from policemen around.
Echocho had led the lawmakers in the Senate and House of Representatives, to visit Governor Bello to congratulate him on the peaceful and credible conduct of the November 11 Governorship election and to pledge their unalloyed loyalty to him and the incoming administration.
However, Onogu, said the governor received with rude shock the news of the attack on Echocho and swiftly ordered the arrest of the culprits.
“He charged security agencies to investigate the issue thoroughly , ensure the offenders face the full wrath of the law.
Part of the statement issued by Onogu reads : “Information just got to me as I left the office to the residence that one man called Suleiman and others embarrassed Sen Jibrin Echocho in Government
House.
“I’ve directed CSO to arrest all those involved in such stupid act and bring them to justice immediately.
“I will never condone any act of hooliganism and indiscipline.”
The national assembly members who visited on Tuesday were elected on the platforms of the APC, PDP and the ADC.
