Lokoja – Six persons died and 25 others were seriously injured when an IVECO trailer conveying cows and persons was involved in an accident on Okene -Ogori road in Kogi State.

A statement issued in Lokoja in Sunday by the state Sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC) said 45 persons were involved in the accident.

The statement did not give the exact number of cows the truck was carrying as at the time of the crash.

It said the accident occurred at about 12 noon of Saturday, December 10 at a spot close to the grave yard, just a few kilometers to Ogori -Magongo.

Reacting, the state Sector Commander of the FRSC, Stephen Dawulung blamed the crash on “speed resulting to loss of control at a sharp bend.”

He said the injured victims of the accidents were taken
to Ageva General Hospital Okene,Ajunko Clinic and Maternity, Ibilo and Obangede General Hospital Okene by a joint team of FRSC officials and Police.

Dawulung said a military team was also on hand to provide security cover during the rescue operation.

“The Kogi Sector Command of FRSC will continue to carry out enforcements and enlightenment programs against speed, overloading and mixed loading of goods and passengers, especially in trucks, trailers and other vehicles meant to convey goods only in pursuit of aversion of such incidences.

“Drivers are hereby called upon to always exhibit high level of discipline towards adherence to road traffic regulations,” Dawulung said. (vitalnewsngr.com)
