4 Killed, 2 Injured In Accident On Ilorin – Bode Saadu Road

Four persons died on Wednesday in a multiple accident which occurred on Ilorin – Bide Saadu road in Kwara State.

Five persons were also inured in the accident which involved two trucks.

The impact of the head on collision between the two trucks resulted to an inferno that burnt the trucks.

Ten burnt persons were said to be involved in the crash which happened at about 1:02 pm.

The Public Education Officer of the Kwara State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Olayinka Busari Basambo confirmed the accident.

“On receipt of the report of the crash around 1:09pm, FRSC Rescue operatives were immediately mobilized to the crash scene where they rescued 5 injured Male Adults to University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for Medical treatment,” he said.

According to Basambo, preliminary investigations revealed that one of the trucks carrying fertilizer and eight passengers wrongfully overtook another vehicle without adequate view of the road ahead and in a bid to avoid colliding with an oncoming truck, lost control and swerved to the side thereby colliding with another truck carrying tomatoes.

“A total of Ten (10) persons were involved in the crash. Five(5) got injured while Four (4) others sadly lost their lives.

” So far, the fire has been put out, and the obstructions cleared to allow free flow of traffic.

” The Sector Commander has since directed for a full investigations to harvest information that will guide against reoccurrence.

” The Sector Commander commiserates with the families of the departed and wishes the injured quick recovery. ”

Basambo, said the Sector Commander also appealed to drivers to avoid over speeding, overloading and wrongful overtaking and other acts that may be inimical to their safety.

“He further reiterated the Command’s commitment towards ensuring the safety of all road users in Kwara State within this holy month of Ramadan and beyond,” Basambo said. (vitalnewsngr.com)
