Sokoto – At least 11 Commissioners have resigned their appointments in the cabinet of Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
The Commissioners include those of Ministries of Land and Housing, Aminu Bala Bodinga,; Youth and Sport, Bashir Gorau; Finance, Abdussamad Dasuki; to Security and Carriers Affairs, Garba Moyi and Religious Affairs, Abdullahi Maigwandu.
Others are Commissioners of Works, Salihu Maidaji; Solid Minerals, Abubakar Maikudi; Water Resources, Shu’aibu Gwanda Gobir; Environment, Sagir Bafarawa and Local Government, Manir Dan’iya who is still the deputy Governor of the state as well as Commissioner of Commerce, Bashir Gidado.
The Secretary to the Sokoto state government, Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mukhtar Umar Magori, also resigned.
Tambuwal has reportedly accepted their resignations.
All the appointees resigned to pursue their 2023 political interests.
In the last two weeks, over 50 commissioners have resigned in different states over the 2023 elections.
Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended) stipulates that, “No political appointee at any level shall be voting delegate or be voted for at the Convention or Congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.”
Going by the electoral timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties have till June 3, 2022, to file their nominations for the coming general election. (Daily Trust/vitalnews)
