18 die in Niger auto crash

Minna – Eighteen persons were burnt to death in an early morning auto crash which occurred on Sunday at Gidan Kwano village on Minna -Bida road in Niger State.

The accident involved a truck and an 18-passenger commercial bus believed to be coming from Lagos.

The bus was said to have hit the truck parked by the road side, igniting a fire which burnt the driver and 17 of his passengers beyond recognition.

However, two of the passengers , were rescued in critical condition and taken to IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna, for treatment .

Spokesman of the Niger State Police Public Command, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, confirmed the accident.

He said dead victims had been given a mass burial at a spot close to the scene of the accident.
