Abuja – The National Congress for Wo-men’s Societies (NCWS) Nigeria , has called on stakeholders in the Nigeria project to prevail on the Federal Government to immediately approve the conduct of a referendum for Biafra.
The group which made the call in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday said this has become necessary to stem the tide of killings, violence and breakdown of law and order.
Dr Ngozi Orabueze , the group’s Leader who signed the statement also raised issues on the hurdles being faced by elected officials from South East , Biafra territory in the Nigeria State based on the reports of the recently concluded general elections.
According to her, the recently concluded Presidential/National Assembly and Governorship/ House Assembly elections in Nigeria based on INEC reports had portrayed the difficulty for any elected individual under the Nigerian state to succeed in leadership in the Southeast Biafra territory.
Orabueze who has been a leading voice for justice self-determination, equity, good governance, fairness, and peace in the Nigeria leadership question backed her assertion with the reports released by INEC in the recently concluded elections in Nigeria.
The reports she observed called for an urgent review of the Nigeria state and the immediate need for a referendum in Southeast Nigeria Biafra Territory.
She listed the parameters for good governance as fair conduct of elections, responsiveness, openness, transparency, rule of law, and ethical conduct.
According to her, these values were mostly lacking in the recently concluded election in Nigeria based on reports from several election monitoring committees.
Orabueze indicated that the statistics of the election results as posted in the INEC website showed that the INEC numbers as enumerated below will make it practically impossible for any elected official under the Nigerian state to function in Biafran territory.
Below are the numbers of Southeastern Nigeria Biafrans that registered/collected PVCs (voters’ card) versus the actual number that voted during the recently concluded Governorship/House of Representatives election:
