Woman cries out over surgery error, appeals for assistance to offset N2. 3 million medical bill
Lokoja – Miss Faith Sunday, a 30-year old lady from Okene , Kogi state has appealed to good spirited individuals and corporate organisations to come to her aid by offsetting her N2 .3 million medical bill.
The lady who has been bedridden in the last six months said the N2 .3 million was the cost of drugs and her treatment at Shifaah Hospital , a private hospital in Lokoja.
According to the lady, her ordeal started in a private hospital in Lagos where she went through a surgical operation to remove fibroid.
She said that her health condition took a new turn when her intestine was tampered with during the operation.
“Six days after the failed operation , I started developing complications and the hospital referred me to another hospital where I was asked to deposit N1.5 million for another operation,” She explained.
However, Sunday, said that she could not raise the money and had to return home where she started living in pains for days.
She said that the pains were so severe that her mother had to run down to Lagos to come and bring her to Shifaah Hospital, Lokoja.
One of the doctors at Shifaah Hospital , Dr Muazu Musa said Faith was unconscious when she was brought to the hospital 72 days ago.
He said that they were able to stabilise her and thereafter performed exploratory laparotomy (resection and anastomosis) on her to correct the error inflicted on her in Lagos hospital.
“The operation lasted for eight hours and it took another 24 hours before she regained consciousness.
“We have been managing her condition in the last 72 days in this hospital and while we are doing that , her mother who went to Lagos to bring her to this hospital fell sick and died.
“The late mother used to be her major financier as her father is a retiree.
“We thank Almighty God that she has recovered fully but the major challenge we have now is how she can offset her hospital bills which had accumulated to N2. 3 million,” the doctor explained.
Musa said the lady is fit now and ought to have been discharged two weeks ago but her inability to pay her accumulated medical bill would not allow for that.
“The bill is still running because she is still within the hospital facility,” he said.
