Terrorists have again unleashed violence in Kwara State, killing a pregnant woman, abducting at least 18 residents, and rustling dozens of cattle in coordinated attacks across multiple communities.
The latest assault took place in the early hours of Tuesday, when over 40 armed men on motorcycles stormed Motokun village in Patigi Local Government Area, shooting sporadically and forcing villagers to flee for their lives.
A resident told Journalists about the horrifying attack, describing how the gunmen, armed with sophisticated weapons, struck fear into the community.
“They invaded our communities, shooting guns sporadically.
“A pregnant woman was killed instantly, and several people were taken away.
“They came in large numbers on motorcycles,” the resident said.
At least eight residents were kidnapped in Motokun, while another gang simultaneously attacked Fanagun village in Tsaragi Emirate, abducting three Fulani men and stealing dozens of cattle.
These raids have further strained communities already struggling with insecurity.
Villagers reported that the attackers operated freely for hours without any intervention from security forces.
The violence comes a day after terrorists struck Maganiko Ndanangi in Lafiagi Emirate, Edu Local Government Area, abducting a married woman, Aisha, known as Gogo, and a 16-year-old girl, Amina, during a midnight raid.
Residents said the gunmen fired into the air to terrorize them before seizing their victims.
The latest wave of abductions also follows accusations that the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, deployed political thugs and palace-backed security operatives to prevent youths from protesting against rising terror attacks in the area.
