Lokoja – The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has issued certificates of Standardisation and Quality assurance to four companies in Kogi State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the certified companies include Unicane Industries Ltd., Mewobi Nigeria Ltd, Famzz Golden Grain and Kumxy Crunchien Nig. Ltd, all operating in Kogi.

Mr Olowo Alex-Daudu, SON Co–ordinator in Kogi State, in his speech at the presentation held on Friday in Lokoja, described the event as “epoch making” and “very apt”.

Daudu said the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) products could have a niche at the export market for global competitiveness and revenue drive.

“It’s for this reason; SON is committed to not only support products that meet the minimum requirements of Nigeria Industrial Standard (NIS) but to also showcase made in Nigeria goods.

“Therefore, quality is not cheap, it’s a journey and not a destination, which requires companies to keep up with the standards and innovations and not to compromise standard for profit,’’ he advised.

The state Co-ordinator warned that any violation of the product certification terms and conditions would attract serious consequences, including possible or outright withdrawal of certificate.

While congratulating the recipients, Daudu said their products would continue to be subjected to quarterly surveillance assessment to “ensure you maintain consistence in quality.”

Responding on behalf of the certified companies, Mr Najib Abboud, General Manager, Unicane Industries Ltd., thanked SON for finding their products worthy to go into the global market.

“This is a great opportunity given to us to be of service to humanity through our standardized and qualitative products that will stand the global test and time.

“The issuance of these certificates to us today, is a testimony that Nigerian products can be competitive in the world market.

“We hope to keep the standard and quality of our products in order to win the contest in the global market and put Nigeria in the Guinness Book of Records,” Abboud assured.

NAN reports that Unicane Industries Ltd. produces Ethanol; Mewobi Nigeria Ltd, electric concrete poles; Famzz Golden Grain bagged rice and Kumxy Crunchien Nig. Ltd, groundnut crunches known as Kulli-Kulli.
