Stakeholders across Kwara and Niger States have lauded President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to construct the 1,000-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry superhighway.

Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara and Umaru Bago of Niger States see this project as another testament to Tinubu’s dedication to Nigeria’s socio-economic advancement.

In a stakeholders’ meeting held in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, the public was briefed on the sections of the superhighway that pass through Kwara and Niger States, seeking to garner support for this and other presidential initiatives.

The highway project will cover 188 kilometres in Kwara and 125 kilometres in Niger, promising significant economic benefits for the communities it touches.

The meeting, organized by the Federal Ministry of Works, saw attendance from notable figures including Governor Bago, Kwara Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi, and various parliamentarians, ministers, royal fathers, industrialists, and community leaders.

Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized that the road project highlights President Tinubu’s bold vision for infrastructure that enhances national connectivity and economic growth.

Represented by Deputy Governor Alabi, he stated, “This road project underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to aligning development priorities with infrastructure that connects all parts of Nigeria, making the people the center of this vision.”

Governor Bago urged the people of Kwara and Niger to support the federal government, emphasizing the developmental benefits of the project.

He reassured locals that no compensation would be paid as the project is for their benefit and urged them not to obstruct contractors.

Minister of Works , Engr. Dave Umahi commended the efforts of Governors AbdulRazaq and Bago in supporting the project, noting that the Ministry has 18 federal projects in Kwara State.

He assured that projects lagging behind would receive more attention.

Highlighting the historical significance, Umahi mentioned that the Sokoto-Badagry road has been planned for the past 48 years without any progress until now.

He expressed confidence in the current administration’s ability to complete the project.

Senate Committee Chairman on Works, Barinada Mpigi criticized the frequent abandonment of road projects by contractors after being mobilized and warned of possible sanctions against erring contractors.

Dr. Kamoru Yusuf of KAM Holdings also expressed optimism, stating that the project will greatly improve logistics and travel time nationwide, providing much-needed relief.
