A pregnant woman was among six persons that were killed during a violent clash between herdsmen and farmers in the Farin Dutse community of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
A youth leader in the community, Ahmed Hassan, who spoke on the development said the victims were mostly women and children.
“The crisis started as a minor altercation between a herder and a farmer but quickly escalated, leading to the destruction of houses and properties,” Hassan said.
He added that at least three people were injured, while many residents fled to neighbouring communities and the headquarters of Nasarawa Local Government Area to seek refuge.
Spokesman of the state police command, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in a statement but said only six bodies had been recovered so far.
“Security operatives have been deployed to restore calm in the area,” Nansel stated.
The police spokesperson also urged residents to embrace dialogue and avoid resorting to violence at the slightest provocation.
