Lokoja – The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State , Akeem Yusuf has presented cheques worth N32,767,784.86k to the families of 44 police officers who died in active service in various parts of the state.
SP William Aya, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, said Yusuf presented the cheques to the beneficiaries at a brief ceremony in Lokoja on Tuesday.
The Commissioner presented the cheques to the beneficiaries on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Some of deceased 44 Police Officers died in active service while some died accident while carrying out their official duty.
Aya said the gesture was part of the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare Insurance Scheme aimed at improving the welfare of the families of deceased Police Officers and to support Police Officers who became accident victim(s) while carrying out their duty.
He added that the gesture was also to encourage other Officers in active service to be diligent.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration; DCP Ajewole Joshua Adedayo represented the Commissioner of Police at the event .
He stated that the Police appreciated the contributions of the deceased officers to the force.
The DCP urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money for the betterment of their families.
Some of the beneficiaries appreciated the IGP for the gesture and promised to make use of the money for the benefit of their families. (vitalnewsngr.com)
