Ibadan – Oyo Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He announced his defection on Sunday in Ibadan during a chat with newsmen in his private office at Ojoo, Ibadan.
Olaniyan who was originally a member of the ADC became a member of the PDP when Makinde picked him as his running mate for the 2019 governorship election.
Both Makinde and Olaniyan have at logger head for sometime now.
Makinde only few days ago picked Mr Bayo Lawal to replace Olaniyan as his running mate for the 2023 governorship election.
Both Olaniyan and Let awal are from Oke Ogun area of Oyo State.
Sunday’s decampment of Olaniyan from PDP to APC has left him with only two options ; either to resign from his current position as the Deputy Governor of Oyo State or the state house if assembly commence impeachment process against him.
Meanwhile, the senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District and the 2023 Oyo State Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Teslim Folarin has welcomed Olaniyan into the fold of the Progressives’ party.
Folarin, Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content, in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists, described the defection of Olaniyan as a good omen for the APC. (vitalnews)
