Abuja – A former Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Mr Nnamdi Okonkwo has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over a fresh $72.87 million linked to a former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke.
Spokesman of EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, stated that Okonkwo, who is the current Managing Director of First Bank Holding is already in detention over the money.
According to the EFCC, Okonkwo’s arrest is part of the ongoing investigations of the former minister.
” Okonkwo and Charles Onyedibe are currently being detained by the EFCC over the whereabouts of the new $72.87 million, ” EFCC said in the statement issued in Abuja on December 15.
“While all the $153 million were recovered by the EFCC, the cases involving $115 million, as it relates with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) bribery matter, are in various courts,” he explained. “
Uwujaren, disclosed that the money was lodged in the bank’s coffers, adding that Okonkwo’s arrest was part of ongoing investigations of the former minister. (vitalnews)
