The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, has expressed grief on the passage of the Abia PDP Governorship candidate, Professor Uche Eleazar Ikonne
Ikonne, died at about 4am of Wednesday of 25th January 2023, at the National Hospital in Abuja after a brief illness.
Ikonne was recovering after taking proper treatment in the United Kingdom but the sickness relapsed few days ago, leading to multiple cardiac arrests from which he didn’t recover from.
His family confirmed his death in a statement.
Ikonne died at the age of 67years.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the statement signed by its Secretary-General,
Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro,
extolled the virtues of the late PDP governorship candidate, saying that his immense contributions and ideas were legendary .
“The uncommon roles of Professor Uche Ikonne in the Medical profession, academic development, and stability of Abia state, and the entire South East will be greatly missed.
“His peaceful disposition earned him numerous appointments including Rector , Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, 7th Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University , Ututu and the PDP ticket for the Abia Guber elections,” Ohaneze said.
The group further said that Professor Ikonne died at a time his ” vast and rich wealth of experience , lofty ideas, his wise counseling are also needed towards consolidating numerous monumental giant strides achieved by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration in the past seven years in Abia state.”
According to the Igbo ethnic nationality organization, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo call on the Government of Abia state to immortalize late Professor Ikonne for his patriotism and unquantifiable sacrifices.
“The new Government house should be named after the deceased.
“And we equally want to use this medium to call on the state government to honor this great gentleman with an organized befitting burial interment for his supportive sacrifices.
The apex Igbo group also consoled the Ikonne family, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Abia State, the Government, and the people of Abia State on the shocking demise of this worthy Igbo Leader.
It prayed God to grant the deceased peaceful rest and offer the late Professor Uche Ikonne family fortitude to bear the huge loss. (vitalnewsngr.com)
