The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr Habu Gumel and members of the Olympic family in Nigeria have expressed sympathy over the death of some members of Kano State contingent to the just concluded National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.

These 22 athletes and officials from Kano State tragically lost their lives in a motor accident about 50 kilometres from Kano.

“At this trying moment, the NOC Condoles with the government of Kano, its Sports Commission, the National Sports Commission and the Ogun State Government,” Gumel said.

A statement released by the committee’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Nezianya, noted that the accident occurred after the team departed from the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.

“The loss of these remarkable individuals, who were not only talented athletes but also champions and role models, is a profound tragedy that has shaken our sporting community.
