The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has raised alarm over serious threat to his life and that of other top management staff of the company.
Ojulari raised the alarm on Thursday while receiving a delegation of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), led by its president, Comrade Festus Osifo, at the company’s headquarters in Abuja.
He alleged that his push to implement sweeping reforms—aimed at reviving the country’s dormant refineries in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive—has drawn the ire of “powerful elements” determined to oust him.
“This is about the reforms we are introducing. I’m not hiding from anybody.
“I’m not a politician. I’ll have to learn a bit more about politics, but this is part of my development plan, and I’m ready to learn,” Ojulari stated.
His remarks follow recent reports alleging that he had been pressured to resign by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), claims that both agencies and the Presidency have denied.
Ojulari reaffirmed that NNPCL is committed to restoring the nation’s refineries to full operational capacity and disclosed that management is exploring the adoption of the NLNG model to ensure long-term efficiency and sustainability.
Despite the threats, he vowed to complete the refinery turnaround projects, stressing that transparency, accountability, and reform will remain at the core of the company’s agenda.
Ojulari assured that, regardless of mounting pressures, the company remains focused on repositioning Nigeria’s oil industry to meet national energy needs.
President of PENGASSAN, Osifo also voiced concern over the need to maintain stability within NNPCL and the broader oil sector.
