The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed its members to occupy offices of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) on Monday, May 13 in protest against the recent hike in electricity tariffs.
The order to picket all NERC and DISCOs offices nationwide was contained in a directive addressed to state branches of the NLC on Thursday.
The directive was signed by Chris Uyot, Ag. General Secretary of NLC.
The full text of the directive reads thus : “All State Councils Nigeria Labour Congress
“Dear Comrades,
” PICKETING OF NIGERIAN ELECTRICITY REGULATORY COMMISSION (NERC) AND ALL DISCOS ACROSS THE NATION
“We bring you fraternal greetings from the headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
” In line with the directive of the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on 30th April 2024, I have been directed to inform you to commence preparation to picket the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Disco offices in your state.
” The nationwide picketing is slated for Monday, 13th May, 2024.
“While we look forward to a successful action, kindly accept our goodwill and highest regards.”
