The Chairman of North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Barr Cosmos Akighir, says the ongoing construction of River Buruku Bridge is a deliberate effort by the Federal Government to expand the scope of economic activities in the area and Benue State as a whole.
Akighir said the aim was
to empower the people and ease hardship.
Akighir spoke during a thanksgiving service in his honour held at the NKST Church in Buruku Local Government Area.
According to him, the Federal government under President Bola Tinubu is committed to the economic growth of not just Benue State, but the North Central region as a whole.
The NCDC Chairman pledged to modernise the river bank and make it a hub for travellers and other economic activities to boost the livelihoods of Buruku residents.
He added that the commission would work with the Ministry of Water Resources to develop a comprehensive programme to attract tourists, generate revenue and open up the community and the region to more businesses.
Barr Akighir, who pledged to ensure the provision of link roads and the electrification of rural communities in the LGA, urged the people to support the Federal Government as it strives to make life better for all Nigerians.
The NCDC Chairman appreciated the church for the prayers, and thanked the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume for the privilege given to him to serve in the commission.
He called for support for the SGF, saying his support will help the president achieve his second term bid.
Barr Akighir also visited some communities in the LGA after the church service.
He had earlier attended another thanksgiving service in NKST Daudu in Guma LGA, organised by Alhaji Stephen Tsav, the member representing North Central on the Governing Board of the North-East Development Commission.
The thanksgiving service was graced by dignitaries, elder statesmen and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Barr Akighir and his team donated the sum of N22.2 million for the development of the church, adding that his priorities as chairman of the NCDC is to fast track interventions in health care, education, agriculture, infrastructure development and security.
