Abuja – Six persons have so far indicate their interest to contest the national Chairmanship position of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during it’s forthcoming national convention holding on March 26.
Among them are three serving senators; Abdullahi Adamu, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and Mohammed Sani Musa.
Others are a serving minister, George Akume, Saliu Mustapha , a former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari and Sunny Sylvester Moniedafe.
Saliu Mustapha a former National Deputy Chairman of the CPC is from Kwara State while Moniedafe is from Adamawa State.
Adamu, Al-Makura, Musa, Akume and Mustapha are from North-Central where APC has zoned the national championship position, Yari and Moniedafe, who are from North-West and North-East jettisoned the zoning arrangement put in place by the party to pick the form.
Each if the aspirants paid N20 million for the expression of interest and nomination forms.
Speaking on behalf of the pro-Yari’s group after obtaining the form, Senator Tijani Yahaya Kaura told journalists that a former governor is a party man and that the national chairmanship position is zoned to the Northern region.
When reminded that the position is zoned to the North-central, Senator Kaura said his group was not aware of that, adding that the issue of zoning was yet to be resolved by the party.
It was gathered that the Director-General of the Saliu Mustapha Campaign Organisation (SAMCO), Balla Usman, collected the expression of interest and nomination forms on behalf of the former National Deputy Chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
It was gathered that a group, the All Progressives Congress (APC), North Central Progressive Movement, led by its Coordinator, Alhaji Suleiman Maikwato, purchased the expression of interest and nomination form for Senator Mohammed Sani Musa.
The Director-General (DG) of Al-Makura Campaign Organisation, Comrade Dominic Allancha, disclosed that Senator Al-Makura was the first to purchase the expression of interest and nomination form on Tuesday to contest for the National Chairman of APC.
Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Barnabas Gemade collected the form on behalf of Akume while Mr. Lawrence Onuchukwu obtained the form on behalf of Adamu on March 16.
