Ibadan —The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State says the performance of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the mock accreditation exercise held on February 5 in the state was excellent and satisfactory.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Adeniran Rahmon Tella stated this after monitoring the mock accreditation in some of the 12 polling units across the three senatorial districts of the state where the exercise took place.

Tella said the commission and the people expressed satisfaction with the performance of the machines in all places where they were deployed for the purpose of testing their performance on the field ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The REC monitored the exercise along with members of Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and the media.

“The turn out was encouraging, and the performances of the BVAS in all the Polling Units were excellent,” he said.

According to him, whatever lessons learnt in the mock exercise will be incorporated into the commission’s plan for the forthcoming general elections.

Tella led his team to monitor the exercise at Anglican Primary School Akinbile 1 Polling Unit and Onile Aro Junction/Tokunbo Ojo 1 Polling Unit both in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state in Oyo Central Senatorial Districts.

In Oyo South Senatorial District, the team monitored the exercise at Methodist Primary school N5 (NTA) 1 and Oba Akinbiyi High School ll.

Tella advised eligible voters in the state to come out to exercise their civic responsibility by voting candidates of their choice in all the elections on Feb. 25 and March 11.

He assured that security agencies were working round the clock to ensure safety of live and properties during the election.

The INEC Commissioner also encouraged those that registered but yet to collect their PVCs to come and collect them.

INEC embarked on mock accreditation of voters to test the functionality of the BVAS ahead of the 2023 General Election in the state.

BVAS was introduced by INEC for the accreditation of voters through biometrics capturing, uploading of polling results and other functions.
