The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has organised a one-day capacity building workshop for operators of orphanages in the state.
The objective was to align operators of homeowners and orphanages in the state with the laid down rules guiding the Lagos State Policy On Food And Nutrition.
In his keynote address, at the event held on Tuesday at the Correctional Centre for Junior Boys, Yaba, the state Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende said it was to ensure the compliance of Owners of Private Homes and Orphanages with Lagos State Food and Nutrition Policy and Plan of Action.
Ogunlende also said the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was not only concerned about food security but out to ensure that the necessary nutritional requirement was met , particularly for wards in both government and private homes.
According to the Commissioner, the THEMES plus Agenda was to make sure that no person was left behind in any area.
He addes that participants must put the knowledge acquired into practice.
The Permanent Secretary, Mrs Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu stressed the need for the participants to learn, unlearn and relearn in line with evolving realities in their sector where she said it is now compulsory for nutrition to be made a topmost priority.
Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed that the Ministry would continue to place premium on capacity building for owners of Private Homes and Orphanages in order for the children under their watch to receive the best care.
Stressing the relevance of the programme, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Amodu Obajomo, represented by Mr Banjo Ogunsola, a Director in the Ministry, stated that the implementation of the Lagos State Policy On Food And Nutrition was necessary because nutritional well being of all people is a pre-condition for development and a key objective of progress in human development.
In their presentations, the State Nutrition Officer, Mrs Olanrewaju Olubunmi and Health Educator, L.S.M.O.H, Mrs Moronfolu Olanike enlightened the participants on how to prepare adequate diet for all ages, the role of nutrition in total well being of children and how to use different food supplements to prevent malnutrition in children.
