Lagos – Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako has resigned his appointment following incessant collapse of buildings in the State.
His resignation as the state government said death toll in the seven-storey building that collapsed on Sunday at Lekki has risen to five.
The commissioner has been under serious tension as he sets record in terms of building collapse in the state.
Under him, a 21-storey building in Ikoyi collapsed last year, killing about 50 people, while several others also caved in.
The last was the 7-storey collapsed building on Sunday, killing two people.
Uncofirmed source also alleged that Salako was indicted by the committee set up by the Lagos State Government to look into the reason for the collapse of 21-storey building in Ikoyi last year.
However, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, in a statement on Monday said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has accepted the resignation of Dr. Idris.
”This is a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry and its agencies.
”Governor Sanwo-Olu thanks the Commissioner for his services to the State and wishes him success in his future endeavours.
”The Governor warns all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are,” he said.
