Christians in Kwara State have been charged to uphold unconditional love and unity across ethnic divides as a pathway to sustained peace and harmonious coexistence in the state.
The call was made by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Kwara, Right Reverend Sunday Adewole, during his Christmas message delivered at the Cathedral of Saint Barnabas, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin.
The Christmas service was themed “The Greatest Gift from God.”
Bishop Adewole said the essence of Christmas goes beyond celebration, noting that it is a remembrance of God’s sacrificial love for mankind.
He explained that love remains the foundation of peaceful living, stressing that the message of Christ should inspire believers to relate with one another in humility and understanding, regardless of ethnic or cultural differences.

Quoting from the book of Genesis, the bishop said, “The scripture says, ‘Let there be light, and there was light.’
This shows that God’s love brings illumination, direction and hope to humanity. Without love, society cannot experience true peace.”
He urged Christians to reflect deeply on their lives, repent from wrongdoing and embrace positive values as they prepare to enter the new year.
According to him, Christmas offers an opportunity for spiritual renewal and a fresh start anchored on righteousness and obedience to God.
The cleric also called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity and easing the economic hardship faced by citizens.
He said meaningful development can only be achieved when lives and property are adequately protected and the welfare of the people is prioritised.
Bishop Adewole further appealed to members of the public to support government initiatives by acting responsibly and promoting peace within their communities, adding that collective efforts are needed to overcome societal challenges.
In his remarks, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by his deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, commended the Christian community for its consistent contributions to peace and stability in the state.

Alabi assured that the state government would continue to design and implement policies and programmes aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents, irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliation.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to unity, inclusiveness and sustainable development across Kwara State. (vitalnewsngr.com)
