Kogi Govt, Poral Film Sign MoU For Establishment Of Television Station

Kogi State Government on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a state-owned television station.

The MoU was signed between the state government and a private concern, Poral FILM.

The MoU signing ceremony took place in Lokoja at the office of the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State.

Recall that the state created on August 27, 1991 by former military President Ibrahim Babangida is about the only state in Nigeria without its own television station.

Speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade said : “The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kogi State Government and Pora Films marks the beginning of a new era, one that will establish Kogi Television, the first state-owned television station in our over 33 years of existence.

“For many years, Kogi remained the only state in Nigeria without its own television station.

“Today, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Chief Servant of Kogi State, that gap is being bridged.

“This project is not just about broadcasting; it is about telling the Kogi story, showcasing our culture, promoting investment opportunities, and giving our state the global visibility it deserves.

“We recognize the critical role of our technical partners, Pora Films, whose expertise will be instrumental in actualizing this ambitious project.

“The State Government has full confidence in their capacity to deliver a world-class television station that will place Kogi on the national and international media map.

“This station is not just for information dissemination but a strategic tool to drive development and investment.”

Ayoade commended the state’s Ministry of Information and Communications for play a pivotal role by coordinating and midwifing the processes leading up to the successful launch of Kogi Television.

“We are committed to ensuring that this project is executed with the highest level of professionalism and efficiency so that Kogi Television can take its rightful place among leading broadcast platforms, including DSTV and Startimes,” She said.

While thanking everyone involved in the groundbreaking initiative, she expressed optimism and confidence that Kogi Television will not only serve as a voice for the people but also as a beacon of progress and innovation.

Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Kinsley Femi Fanwo thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for approving the establishment of a the Television Station.

He promised that his Ministry would deliver on the project and the Station would be one of the best Television Stations in the Country.

In the same vein, the Team Lead of Pora Film, Mr. Olajide Ojoniyi, appreciated the government of Kogi State for giving his company the opportunity to partner with it to establish thr Kogi State Television Station.

He highlighted what his company has been achieving with DSTV, for the past 15 years, promising to give Kogi one of the best television broadcasting services.

The signing of the MOU between the Kogi State Government and Pora Film marks a major step towards realizing the state’s vision of having its television station.

This move is expected to have a positive impact on the state’s economy, culture, and overall development.
